Tips for before and after a massage therapy session

Before a Massage:

  • Drink Water. Drink 2 liters the day before your treatment this will assist with recovery and detoxification of the body.
  • Clear your schedule. This will help ensure that you're not stressing or late for your appointment. It also helps ensure that you have enough time to rest, relax and heal after your massage.
  • Eat a light meal. An hour or two before a treatment eat a healthy light meal or snack, this ensures you don’t feel uncomfortable during the treatment and also helps your body to focus its effects on healing your muscles, rather than digesting more food.
  • Scrub & Shave. Washing your body, exfoliating your feet, clipping your nails and shaving isn’t essential. However, I encourage you to do so if it helps you feel more confident and comfortable about getting a full body massage. Your therapist will appreciate it.

After a Massage:

  • Book in another Massage. Massages are a fantastic way to boost your overall wellness. But consistent treatments are recommended for maintaining your physical and mental health long-term.
  • Drink even more water. Dehydrated muscles are tense muscles. Drinking water after a massage will help speed your muscle's recovery and help flush out the toxins that have been released from your muscles.
  • Enjoy Some Downtime. Read, relax, meditate, drink plenty of water, eat healthy whole whole-foods, do some light stretches or yoga, and head to bed early. This takes discipline but you’ll feel and heal better by regularly sticking to some of these suggested healthy habits.
  • Avoid coffee and tea. Drinking caffeine after a massage can tense the muscles just worked on, so it's best to avoid if possible and try herbal tea or water instead
